Frequently asked questions.

Where can we buy Mahkato Silver pieces?

Online
Mahkato Silver pieces are only available online. I am focussing on a ‘Collection Release’ format - whereby I exclusively have a range available at an allotted time. The time is posted on my website & instagram, and there is always a direct link on the home page in the lead up to a collection. My jewellery features solid opals, and other Australian stones such as Turquoise or Variscite.

Prior to the collection release as I complete pieces, I’ll post them to my Instagram for your viewing.

Any unsold pieces from collections remain in my online shop for purchase at any time.

In person
If you are nearby to the Sunshine Coast, QLD or passing through, please feel free to make an appointment if you wish to come to my studio to try on/purchase anything - just contact me to schedule a time.

Are your opals solid?

Yes, all of my opals are solid, untreated and high quality. I predominantly use Boulder Opal from my home state of Queensland, however I do use other opal material from other locations. The price of an opal piece of jewellery is reflected by the value of the opal itself - it is not a price I give it because it ‘looks pretty’. They are valued and purchased from an experienced, professional opal cutter - and my time and materials are added.

Are your products genuine sterling silver?

Yes, all my products are made from genuine sterling silver 925, and fine silver 999. Some earrings have other metals used as embellishments and the metal is stated in the description. Embellishment metals I am currently using are 9ct gold.

Do you do custom orders?

Absolutely. I welcome custom orders, and love working with customers to create the perfect piece. Use the contact form to message me with your ideas, I’ll let you know a price, and we can go from there if I think the project is in my scope.

Do you do jewellery repairs?

Sorry, I do not currently offer jewellery repairs. If something happens to your Mahkato piece, please contact me immediately, but in terms of repairing other makers’ pieces, it’s not something that I offer at this stage.

Does sterling silver tarnish?

The short answer is, yes. All fine metals will tarnish over time, and unfortunately sterling silver does tarnish quicker than gold. However, tarnish can easily be polished off with a jewellery polishing cloth, or an old fashioned trick -toothpaste with warm water! You can prolong tarnishing by storing it in a dry place away from dust and sunlight. Humid areas like a bathroom can speed up the tarnishing process! I also offer anti-tarnishing pads, available here under jewellery care.

Do you work with gold?

I’ve just started using 9ct gold, and have included it alongside silver in some of my pieces. Full gold pieces may be in the works for the future.

I’m a retailer and I want to stock Mahkato Silver, how can I do that?

I’m currently focussing on building my online business, and not taking wholesale customers at this point in time, sorry!

I’ve lost one of my Mahkato Silver earrings, can you make another to replace?

Yes! How annoying is it when you lose one earring, I’ve been there many times before myself! If it’s a plain metal earring and does not have a stone, I can make another one and charge you 50% of the full priced pair. If they have stones, it is unlikely I’ll be able to remake the missing one, unless you are happy to have a slightly different stone. Most of my stones are not calibrated shapes I can buy again easily.

What is your refund policy?

I have a detailed refund policy available here for your reference. Please familiarise yourself with that before making a purchase, if you were hesitating about anything. I’m sorry if it seems harsh - it can be very hard as a jewellery maker to accept refunds for wrong choice, or incorrect size. I hope you understand!

Do you ship overseas?

Yes! Please go to the shipping info tab for more info. All countries are available except Russia (due to current government restrictions).
